Damn, I feel old. Between Indy knocking over the Christmas tree this morning (only one ornament broken and no one hurt, thank goodness) and now Maddy refusing to take a nap after an hour of trying, I'm all tired out. My back hurts from stooping over the edge of the crib, tho the herbal heating pad is helping a lot.
Man, I'm just creaky right now. :(
but, the important part of today, before we go out for the candlelight service tonight...

The natural laws ain't got no constitution... Okay. I dunno if you remember, but I had that dizzy spell at the end of June that my PMD determined to be from an ear infection. I had my course of Augmentin, but the pressure in my face and ear never really went away, and it seemed to get worse a few days ago. I finally made an appt with an ENT on Friday for this morning.
Well, it's not my sinuses. (dude, was that scope uncomfy!) And there is NO fluid behind my eardrum at all. My eustachian tube is open and clear. The dizzy spell and hearing blips I had in late June and July were likely due to an inner ear infection, and I likely still have some sequelae. This morning I had a hearing test, and there's definite wonkiness in my Right ear, as there's a blip in my hearing in the 1000 Hz range. So, as soon as my insurance clears it, I will get an MRI to rule out an acoustic neuroma (and look at my sinuses in more detail) and I have a full-length 2h battery of hearing tests to do on January 15th in the morning.
I know he said there's no fluid in there, but it feels like there is. And it feels like there's an unholy amount of pressure in my face. :(

money woes I checked my visa account online so I could see if I could use that card to make the hotel reservation for Com Con.
I'm $90 from my limit. ::headdesk::
My mastercard is at least $444 from the limit, so I can still buy gas and stuff. we have another card or two that might still have money on it left (so to speak), and we'll have to shift money from savings into the visa to help pay it down. we've long since not had enough to cover a mortgage payment anyway. :(
I don't know if we can last six months until I start my new job and earn a bigger paycheck. But somehow we're going to have to...

I actually had ten different pairings, and set those down before the songs.

Suddenly everything is all right... Well, this morning I decide to take the Scion. Jay had called a few times along his commute, as he left about 40 minutes before I planned to. He made it up the hill we live on without any trouble, and once he got to the larger roads had only occasional issues with black ice.
Yeah. Well, his Escape made it. Calypso never got traction once I left my driveway, so I started skidding backward on the hill. This happened to me last year, so I halfway expected it and wasn't terribly shocked. I calmly braked, reversed, 3-point-turned and headed down the hill and wound up taking a longer but plowed route out of my neighborhood. I made it in okay to the hospital and did the consult from yesterday. Nobody thought any less of me for it, and I hung around until the 1 pm department holiday lunch. I puttered across the street to my clinic office to show my face there for a bit and then go home.
I left a little after 4 pm. It took me 50 minutes to drive the distance from the clinic to the main road, which normally takes me about 5. O_O
Once I hit that main road, however, it was fairly smooth sailing to get to Tutor Time. Jay and I arrived at the same time, and we decided to leave Calypso in the parking lot there overnight. We went home in the Escape, and Jay will drop Maddy and I off at Tutor Time in the morning, and I'll drive in to work from there. We'll see how the roads are tomorrow, if we need to repeat it. Hopefully not.
There's supposed to be snow on Christmas Day. I hope it's not so much that we get snowed in at home or at my inlaws. Either way, I'm not on call. :)
I already started a fic for a prompt at the exchange for bell_flint because I'm crazy like that. The bunny bit me HARD last night after Jay and I watched Push again. I also finally (!!) have a main plot for the EOD sequel. :D I think I may do the random 10 songs drabble meme. I seem to be on a creative roll. :D

maddy's having her milk, so she's not pitching a hissy fit for not being on the computer instead of me. Tho I had to wait until she finished it and fell asleep, because she was too upset with me at the computer and not her.
but around 1 pm, i talked with the attending, who had finally gotten to the unit a little while before (instead of the 9:30 we were going to try for). while i did the collateral phone calls this morning while maddy was napping, it would be an issue getting to the hospital. we could possibly leave the house, but getting back was definitely an issue. i didn't know it at the time, but the plow that had come by our house wasn't actually from the town. it was our neighbor. apparently they had driven back from the Hamptons in the blizzard this morning, since they have a 4 wheel drive. plenty of other cars, vans and minivans tried and failed to get up the hill we live on. I felt bad, but we had no way of being sure we'd even get to the hospital in one piece. (as in, Jay would drive me, because 1 - I don't have a paid parking card anymore and 2 - my Scion won't make it) I think part of it is my asian worth ethic, but also because the attending made it in. Tho she also lives in the next town by the hospital in a flat stretch, and I'm 30 minutes away in the hills on a good day.
so, she's going to drop by and write a blurb. I'll go in tomorrow to do the consult. I still feel kind of bad, like I should've tried harder.
At least in Wisconsin, it's flat. And we'll likely get a snow blower. :)

this is why I get paid the (not so) big bucks... snow is shoveled, the plow has come by and my back and shoulders are all stiff and sore. I'm not even the one that spent four hours shoveling! But at least I did the collateral portion over the phone. The Mom was amazed that I'm even going to try and do it anyway.
prolly once Maddy wakes from her nap and eats, we'll go out and I'll do the consult really quickly. We'll see how the attending portion goes, because I'm pretty sure that the one on call already left the hospital, and the Mom knows the inpatient attention from the last few times he decided to get insanely high like this.
The weather is supposed to be clear for a few days and then more snow on Christmas Day. I'm not on call next weekend, so it'll be Lara's headache to come in for that one if something happens.
dude, i hate calls... consult request came in. wah. i'll go in early tomorrow to do it, when the attending on call this weekend will be in to cover the inpatient unit. she is otherwise notoriously difficult to get hold of during the weekends. tho of course as I type this, she calls to coordinate timing. lol.
the only good thing? this sort of thing happens fairly rarely.
Two Things 1) Carbonite still isn't working. This is my frowny face. :(
2) It's starting to snow! Jason left to get a haircut, but the Escape handles hills pretty well. It has to be really icy for it to slide around. Thing 2a = my hands are still really freaking cold.
Maddy went down for her nap a little over an hour ago, which let us put the hard top back on the jeep and I cleaned it out with Mr. Clean. Yay for lack of bugs in it, especially since I'll need to drive the jeep to get to work if it blizzards or if the roads ice over. My little Scion will never survive iced over hills. Maddy's still sleeping soundly, but i'm almost afraid to load up WOW and tempt fate. :) Carbonite wasn't working, and Rich thinks deleting and reinstalling may help. hopefully it did. I miss that mod oh so much. :D
actually finished all the k/m ideas I had. \o/ Of course I have that ST XI idea, tho I feel almost like it's an episode, and the OFC might be a Sue. Tho I have an ending for it as opposed to just a single scene, so we shall see. I still have the BDM AU fic I promised I'd write for mynuet, which will be epic, because I just write things that way. And there's the EOD sequel I should write, but I lack serious plot for. And the d/g idea that I had months ago that just petered out becuase other than the smexing, I have no idea what else will happen in it.
oh, let's tempt fate, shall we? :D

random thoughts First off, thank you to hellbuny and cosmo_jenny for paid time. When I mentioned it the other day, I figured I would whine and deal until I actually had money. Now I can play with iconage until I have money. That's a thousand times better. :)
I checked with our program supervisor. Even tho there's just two fellows in the clinic in January, I can still take a Friday off. So woot! We're going to go to comcon! Tho likely we'll have to get our room. I sincerely doubt that another otacouple would want to put up with us AND all the baby tonnage we'd have to haul with us. Jay will ask his dad today if they can Indy-sit for that weekend. I'm glad mistresschimera clarified that we count as inactive staff. For a while there, I thought we weren't staff at all anymore. ^^; Maybe if the con is still around in a few years we can go back to active status. Right now our RL is still interfering with fannish stuff.
Speaking of which... Jay is still sick. He's not in the "deathly ill and needs three days off from work while he sleeps 20 hours a day" category with this cold at least. He only needed Monday off and he goes to bed a bit earlier than usual. wah. :(
It's a slow week, as hols are coming. This allows me to go overboard with the fanfic writing at work. So don't be surprised with the onslaught of chapters that will continue to take up my journal. :D

Paid time runs out tomorrow, too. *bats eyes at vivier* Pretty please?
Anyway. What I was really going to say with this while i'm having my sandwich.
OMG this weekend. Maddy went down to sleep a little earlier on Saturday, which made me go YAY! because I could get a bit extra WOW time. But lo, this was not in my future. She was a wailing cranky mess in the eight o'clock hour, where even tho Jay was feeling craptastic and sick and really wanted to veg on the couch (which he did most of the time) he did help try to settle Maddy. After a while, tho, he crashed and went to bed, leaving me to try to rock Maddy back to sleep. I think it was about 9 or so that she finally went back down. I finished the quests I had with mynuet and went to bed about 10:30 or so, figuring that it would be that.
Oh noes. Not at all.
1 am through 5 am, Jay and I both took turns back and forth getting up with her. She didn't sleep for more than a half hour at a time. Now, we figured she had a nasty cold (again) and maybe was teething, so I had given her motrin at about 8:30 or 9 or something like that. In retrospect, I prolly should've given it again the first time she woke up. But we both had to be up and down with her, taking turns as to who got cold when. At one point she wouldn't sit still in my arms, kept pitching out of them and even said "Dada!" while looking at the door to her room. No, not joking. So that was enough to make me feel like a bad mother, yanno? At other points, she settled on me a bit easier, getting antsy at being laid down in the crib. By 5 am, Jay was so frustrated he shut off the monitor. She did settle by then anyway, and he had me shut off the 6 am alarm when it went off, because there was no way we would be functional in church and there was no way she wouldn't be cranky if we tried to wake her when she finally went to sleep.
She woke at 7 am long enough for me to prep a bottle of toddler formula, which we really only use in the morning. She has whole milk the rest of the time. But she fell asleep by the time I got there, so I went back to bed. by 7:30 she woke up again, this time actually wanting the bottle. She had it, pitched it halfway through, cried for her binky, finished her bottle. I gave her more motrin and she fell asleep on the couch for about an hour or so. We learned our lesson and kept her regularly dosed with Motrin the rest of the day. That allowed her to actually go to the church's Santa excursion in the afternoon and not be a little fussbudget, tho the novelty of the situation also kept her a little subdued.
Jay crashed again last night. Tho I admit, I was frustrated with him at times, too. He knew I wanted to watch the Tin Man and Alice replays on SciFi, and he did start the meals of the day so I could do that. But the part of Alice that I missed coincided with Maddy's dinner, and I had to keep watch over her. So I missed a chunk of it over again. He rolled his eyes at my complaint that I missed it again and told me I hadn't missed much. After he went to bed, I contemplated staying up to watch the end of Alice again or going onto the computer. Because of the missed sleep, I went to bed early as well. I know I had a lot of fractured dreams, but Maddy slept well, at least. I think the molar on the other side wants to come through.
Yet another k/m idea born and nearly written in my head because of this, tho. And of course no time to write it up atm. Must write today's eval...
